La Quinta Arts Foundation (LQAF) has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Auen Foundation to assist with funding cultural programs that enrich the quality of life for senior citizens.
The Auen Foundation is a private, family foundation established in 1992 by Ron and Sherrie Auen with the belief that the elderly are one of the most important resources that ensure a vibrant society. The Auen Foundation funds innovative programs designed to enhance the lives of the elderly and to bridge the gap between their generation and our children by supporting intergenerational programs.
LQAF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1982 dedicated to its mission, “Promoting and Cultivating the Arts.” This mission is accomplished by producing nationally acclaimed visual and performing art events, forming meaningful community partnerships, and providing cultural, education and personal growth outreach opportunities to residents and visitors to La Quinta and beyond.
Christi Salamone, Executive Director of LQAF, stated that the senior population is a focal point for LQAF comprising the majority of its membership and volunteer base, as well as those that patronize its cultural events including La Quinta Arts Festival, Art Under the Umbrellas, and La Quinta Museum exhibits.
Donations along with proceeds from LQAF cultural events fund community art programs such as the free art history program taught by volunteer seniors in elementary school classrooms. LQAF also works to provide visual art college scholarships to Coachella Valley students awarding $848,002 to date.
