Roberto Velasquez is a three time LQAF Visual Art Scholarship recipient studying at Marymount University majoring in media studies with an emphasis in animation and motion graphics. Although he had never had an interest in theater, he worked last year in the theater department in charge of designing and painting the sets for each theatrical production over four semesters, where he says he learned many techniques that he can incorporate into his animation and painting career.

This past winter Velasquez was selected by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership’s Pathways to Success program to partner with the Desert Island Community Association, which commissioned him to paint 12 pieces that will rotate throughout the newly remodeled Desert Island Country Club.

Roberto is currently studying abroad in Florence, Italy and has applied for his fourth LQAF scholarship for the upcoming 2013/14 academic year.

The deadline to apply for an LQAF Visual Art Scholarship for the 2013/14 academic year is March 29, 2013.
