La Quinta Arts Festival Artist Spotlight: Wiwat Kamolpornwijit
Wiwat Kamolpornwijit (Jewelry) Alexandria, VA — Booth #460
“Unique structures and nature inspire me to create jewelry where organic components are set within contemporary frames.” – Wiwat Kamolpornwijit
Wiwat started creating his wearable art for a fundraiser for his temple and discovered he had some serious talent in this field. He left his position as environmental researcher in 2007 to pursue jewelry making full-time.
Wiwat fashions jewelry using polymer clay, hand-fashioning each and every piece. The different colors within a piece stem from using different color clay, there is no painting involved. Then he adds beads and wires to complement his nature-inspired designs and intricate botanical images.
He uses several techniques including caning, engraving, weaving, layering, and many others for which he does not have names.
View his intricate work in booth #460 at the 37th La Quinta Arts Festival, March 7-10, 2019. For information and tickets, click here.
