Hannie Goldgewicht was born in San Jose, Costa Rica and her childhood there had a tremendous influence emanating with a love of natural materials and organic design. Traveling through Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America observing those different cultures gave Hannie a feel for the diversity of art and a sense of freedom to create unique techniques. On a trip to Argentina she first came across pine needle basketry and began learning the technique from master fiber artist Delfa Deriu.
Hannie Goldgewicht’s “Red Heart” Ceramic Vessel is a hand thrown piece on a potter’s wheel, and then finished with patinas and weaved on the rim with pine needles. It was one of four pieces of Hannie’s selected by The Cheongju International Craft Biennale 2011 in Korea where she was invited to be one of the artists to represent the USA.
Hannie is also a regular participant in Art Under the Umbrellas at Old Town La Quinta.
