One of La Quinta Arts Festival’s favorite artists, famed Washington wildlife sculptor Jason Napier, landed a whopping $100,000 commission from the owner of a large construction business in Calgary, Canada this year to enlarge Jason’s “Stir’d UP” black horse to life-size: 7 ft tall x 14 ft long, and 1,200 lbs!!
This undertaking created quite a stir, indeed, as it became a race against time to have it completed in time for the opening of the 101st Calgary Stampede, July 5-14, 2013, where it made its dramatic debut as the showcase piece at the main entrance of the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.”
To make the trip even more awesome, Jason won the “Artists Choice” silver buckle award in the Calgary Stampede Western Art Show. This is quite an honor considering that this is only the second year that Napier has participated in the Western Showcase Artists’ Studio, which consists of 60 artists – 70% of which are Canadian.
Jason Napier will be back at his usual spot at the #1 rated La Quinta Arts Festival, March 6-9, 2014.
