The 4th Annual La Quinta Blues & Brews returns to the beautiful La Quinta Civic Center Campus on Saturday, November 20th from 11am to 6pm. Presented by La Quinta Arts Foundation with Premier Sponsor the City of La Quinta, the event will showcase Southern California’s stellar Blues performers, over 30 craft beers for just $5, wine bar and delicious food from Harry’s Oklahoma Style Smokehouse BBQ and Fisherman’s Grill.
Back by popular demand to kick things off at 11:00am are local favorites Barry Baughn Blues Band. These guys have been burning up the Valley blues scene weekly at Shanghai Reds. Next up at 1:30pm is Leff Rogers Blues Band featuring blues harp master Larry “Bighouse” David. In November 2009, Leff Rogers and crew won California’s Battle of the Blues Bands sending the band on to national competition in Memphis, TN.
Headlining the event starting at 3:30pm is Blues and Jazz legend Barbara Morrison. Over the years Ms. Morrison has performed with a virtual “who’s who” of the Jazz and Blues worlds. That list includes legends like; Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, James Moody, Ron Carter, Etta James, Esther Phillips, David T. Walker, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Otis, Dr. John, Kenny Burrell, Terence Blanchard, Joe Sample, Cedar Walton, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, and Keb’ Mo. Additionally, Ms. Morrison has been featured on over 20 recordings, dazzling fans with a wide array of genres from traditional Jazz and Blues to Gospel and Pop. Her melodic voice, with its two-and-a-half-octave range, is known worldwide.
Barbara Morrison performs renowned Blues and Jazz Festivals around the world, appearing at Montreaux, Nice, Pori, Carnegie Hall, North Sea, Monterey, Long Beach, as well as her Salute to Dizzy Gillespie and her Tribute to Benny Golson, are fondly remembered by Morrison fans who return again and again to share her rare, unique and exceptional vocal gifts.
