Five Earth Day Artists

In celebration of Earth Day, we highlight five artists who honor the earth’s fragility and beauty through their work in mixed media, painting, photography, wood, and sculpture.

1. MIXED MEDIA: Anthony Hansen
La Quinta Arts Festival mixed media artist Anthony Hansen uses found automotive sheet metal to create his sculptures, viewing each scratch and spot of rust on the metal as a treasure of visual texture.

2. PAINTING: Erin Hanson
Explore the beautiful landscapes and sun-drenched colors of the West through the eyes of contemporary impressionist Erin Hanson. She was chosen as the La Quinta Arts Festival 2018 Poster Artist for her selected artwork, a landscape oil painting of the Santa Rosa Mountains, which pays tribute to our beautiful host City of La Quinta.

3. PHOTOGRAPHY: Lijah Hanley
Lijah Hanley won the award for Best Photography at La Quinta Arts Festival 2018. His incredible journey as a photographer started at age 13 when his talent was recognized by National Geographic and Lijah was invited on a study trip to the Amazon jungle.

4. WOOD: Crystal Lockwood
La Quinta Arts Festival artist Crystal Lockwood carves figurative sculptures out of hand collected driftwood, gathered from the California and Oregon coastlines.

5. SCULPTURE: Ruben Fasani
Ruben Fasani works with recycled glass to transform industrial waste into magnificent artistic creations. He won the award for Best Sculpture at La Quinta Arts Festival 2018.
