Thank you Homestead Magazine and Laura Reed for this wonderful portrait of La Quinta artists Larry and Nancy Cush. The Cushes, of Cush Art Studios have been producing sculptures and hand-painted murals from the Cove, La Quinta’s oldest neighborhood. The Cushes live in one of 63 adobe style casitas built 80 years ago, enveloped in “desert grunge”. They both get inspired by the broad Coachella Valley, which eons ago existed as Lake Cahuilla.
La Quinta and the surrounding communities of Indian Wells, Palm Springs and other towns are highly-supportive of artists like the Cuhses, showing that support with various art festivals and annual studio tours. Larry’s work can be viewed in La Quinta’s shopping mall and La Quinta’s Civic Center Park, Nancy’s murals can be viewed on the walls of La Quinta’s coffee shops and the town square, and together the couple created artwork for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
