Fine Fiber Artist Barbara Holloway has been on the fast track these past months, taking home First and Second Place ribbons for individual pieces submitted in the Fiber category at the 41st Anniversary Ruidoso Art Festival in New Mexico. In April she won Best of Fiber Category at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival (near Houston, Texas).
Coming up October 20-21, 2012, Barbara will be one of the artists featured at the 25th Anniversary Galisteo Studio Tour. This is a premier annual studio tour in the classic New Mexican Village of Galisteo, located 25 miles south historic Santa Fe. This all adobe village of 250 residents (including Holloway) boasts of an incredibly diverse artist population. The public is invited free of charge to meet the artists and tour their private studios. Barbara is proud to share that she has participated in every Galisteo Studio Tour except one. Barbara Holloway loves to weave. She began weaving after years of sewing with a desire to go one step further and create her own fabric for designing and sewing garments. She says that her design inspirations come from everywhere–sometimes even dreams–and is especially influenced by the natural colors of the surrounding Galisteo high desert basin. Her current favorite fiber is to work with is rayon chenille and cotton yarns because it is luxurious and suitable for all seasons.
