A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO
The City of La Quinta is experiencing exciting growth, and the La Quinta Arts Foundation looks forward to being a part of the progress. A new development, The Villas at Old Town is in the works adjacent to the existing Old Town La Quinta and adjoining the La Quinta Civic Center Campus on Calle Tampico. The development areas have been used for parking for LQAF events; La Quinta Arts Festival and Art Under the Umbrellas. While the groundbreaking of the project was recently postponed, the build-out of the village as a pedestrian friendly, healthy community with convenient amenities fulfills the vision for a modern city.
Equally exciting is La Quinta Arts Foundation’s vision for the future. Throughout our thirty-five year history we have served the entire valley and beyond while maintaining a La Quinta centric focus. With this breadth of experience, we are well suited to serve the vital, expressed needs of an expanding artistic community. In December 2015 we incorporated the California Desert Arts Council. To foster creative expression in all forms, California Desert Arts Council will focus efforts on advocacy, collaboration, resource development, professionalization, and promotion of the Greater Palm Springs creative community. Working with the Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau we will identify, package and promote art and culture experiences in support of tourism.
We have set high goals. We are challenging ourselves to evolve to ensure the Foundation’s vibrancy for many years to come.
With these goals, the focus of our efforts for the 2016/17 season will be directed to present the 35th Anniversary La Quinta Arts Festival, along with maintaining the LQAF Visual Arts Scholarship program. Now at $1.23 million awarded, scholarship recipients are returning to the valley to establish themselves as the next generation of arts and culture producers, served by the California Desert Arts Council.
LQAF has been honored to provide artists with exhibition and sales opportunities, and while the Board of Directors has determined we will not produce Art Under the Umbrellas for the upcoming season, we will continue to assist artist career goals with our best efforts to promote and cultivate the arts.
We have sincerely appreciated the past and continued support from artists, members, volunteers, sponsors, patrons, and collectors, and we welcome your continued participation as we navigate a bright future promising three more decades of success.
We hope to see you at the 35th La Quinta Arts Festival ®, March 2-5, 2017!
