LQAF announces an UNBELIEVABLE line-up for the 5th Annual La Quinta Blues & Brews, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at La Quinta Civic Center Campus, 11am to 6pm. Gates open at 10:30am.
Firing up the day at 11:00am are Coachella Valley favorites the BARRY BAUGHN BLUES BAND, Barry Baughn (lead guitar) and crew Alaz Diaz (drums), Bob Gross (bass) and John “Mad Dog” Ruiz on the piano. This will be the band’s 3rd appearance at Blues and Brews and the crowd can’t get enough of them. Last year they wowed the audience with roots favorites like ‘She’s Into Something’ (Albert Collins, Robert Cray) ‘Can’t Nobody Love You’ (Solomon Burke), ‘Killing Floor’ (Howlin Wolf), ‘Sweet Home Chicago’ (Robert Johnson), and ‘Rack Em Up’ (Johnny Lang ).
Next Up at 1:30pm is the CANDYE KANE BAND. Candye Kane has been called a survivor, a superhero and the toughest girl alive. They are apt descriptions of the jump blues singer, songwriter and mother of two from East Los Angeles who has earned this moniker the hard way. Nominated for five National Blues Foundation Awards including the 2011 Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year, winner of ten San Diego Music Awards, starring in a sold out stage play about her life, and beating down pancreatic cancer in the last two years, Kane is one tough cookie. She has performed worldwide for presidents and movie stars, but her path to success was not always glamorous or easy. Ten cds, six record labels, millions of international road miles and countless awards later, Miss Kane has proven to be a true survivor as she scrambled her way to the top of the roots music heap, creating a world renowned reputation that has spanned two decades. On her latest release, “Sister Vagabond,” Candye Kane once again delivers her heart on a platter. Kane presents a more mature and swinging collection of scorching blues and soul originals, searing with the young Laura Chavez’s impressive guitar work.
Capping off a perfect music filled desert day starting at 3:30pm will be THE HOLLYWOOD BLUE FLAMES who began life in 1975 as The Hollywood Fats Band, led by guitar phenomenon Michael “Hollywood Fats” Mann. When Hollywood Fats passed away in 1986, the group split, each going their separate ways to stellar careers with the likes of Canned Heat, The Mighty Flyers, and Kim Wilson to name a few. In 2005 the remaining original members, Al Blake (harmonica, vocals, guitar) Richard Innes (drums) Fred Kaplan (piano) Larry Taylor (bass), rejoined forming The Hollywood Blue Flames and adding Junior Watson (guitar) as Hollywood Fat’s stead. If you like the sounds of classic Chicago blues, peppered with some swing and Watson’s searing guitar said to be “a train off the tracks” you’ll be in for a treat listening to The Hollywood Blue Flames.
Tickets are $15 in advance available by clicking here, or $20 at the gate.
We’ll be serving up over 30 craft beers, along with fabulous food and wine from Fisherman’s Market & Grill and Baja Louie’s Mexican Cantina. Must present photo ID to purchase alcohol. Please no pets, coolers, or food.
