The Civic Center Campus was selected as the site for La Quinta Arts Festival in Spring 2005. Surrounded by the rugged Santa Rosa Mountains the 10 acre site is adjacent to the west side of City Hall. The lush landscaping , refreshing lake, and meandering paths create a peaceful oasis in the village of La Quinta . The Campus has several pieces of public art including a bronze relief map of the Coachella Valley with a Braille legend, sidewalk mosaics, animal tracks, and memorials for artists and veterans of the community.
The City of La Quinta 's Art in Public Places program has a development fee applied to all construction, in which projects pay an established percentage of building valuation into the Art In Public Places fund. These funds are then used to purchase and install public art pieces throughout the City. Many of these have been purchased at La Quinta Arts Festival. Types of public art include a mosaic mural at La Quinta car wash, decorative bridge railings on Jefferson and Washington Streets, and bronze sculptures at various locations throughout the city. In La Quinta, residents like to state that even our bridges are works of art!
