Teresa Jose (Gamboa) Ochoa was born in Caracas, Venezuela May 21st, 1952.  Several earlier works are signed under my former married name Teresa Heller.

As a child I enjoyed drawing and when my parents noticed my artistic skills, they decided to support them. I studied sketching and oil painting at an Art Academy in Caracas two times a week.  At the age of ten, I began to display my little pieces in art shows, the first one, The CANTV phone company art festival, where they were looking for a front cover for their annual phone book. I also displayed my art work in The Venezuelan American Institute, where I also was studying English during my summer brakes.

My studies then did not include instruction in Acrylics, all my art work was done in Oil, Charcoal, and Ink. When I finished high school, I was accepted to study at the Industrial Design Institute in Caracas, where I got a degree in Art Illustration and Graphic Design in 1972. My first job was at an advertising company, Vepaco as a freelance artist in the graphic design department.

Through 2002 I was dedicated to married life, my family and children, and my own travel marketing business.  However throughout that time I continued to paint and took lessons with a fellow artist and travel agent, Sharon Mossman who sharpened my skills in Oil and Acrylic techniques.  These lessons motivated me to continue learning, painting and experimenting with tri di effects using paper, wood and metal with a goal to become involved in the artist community in Northern California and exhibit my work resulting in the following recognition:

The Lynn Gallery, Antioch, CA – Alma del Sol art show for latino artists, exhibit of three works.

Art and Cultural Foundation of Antioch –The Mastranto, Second Place and 2 honorable mentions

2002 Lynn House Gallery, Antioch, CA – Red Wood Train, first place mixed media

2006 Art, Wine & Jazz, Brentwood, CA – 3rd place mixed media tri di, voted most popular artist.

2008 Discovery Art League, Contra Costa County, Past President, 6 year member, Roses of Passion exhibit, 3rd place mixed media.

2010, 101 Magazine, published “Touring Italy”

I moved to Indio, CA in May 2010 where I have been organizing my new studio, taking commissions and becoming involved in local art organizations.
