I’m not a jewelry designer, I am a sculptor.  While I’m known for my larger work, I have also carved in miniature for over thirty years.  When my wife Hillary found a trunk full of my tiny soapstone carvings, she was inspired to suggest jewelry, so we began casting them in gold and silver.  Our SOMERS collection now includes pendants, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, cufflinks, and belt buckles.

Each piece of our original collection begins as a soapstone sculpture. We make a mold, the resulting wax is cast in gold or silver, and is then hand-finished with a five-step polishing process.  Stone becomes silver and gold – the alchemy of the SOMERS collection.

We are now expanding our uniquely handmade line with several individually handcrafted items.  The construction of our Squiggle belt and Cleo bracelet demand the sort of bench work which makes each piece a one-of-a-kind.

I try to make each SOMERS piece, whether the handmade or the handcrafted, perfect in relationship with itself. Balance, proportion, weight, and movement are a complicated set of conditions to arrange in a way that they coexist effortlessly. I have found inspiration to be one of the most elusive, and fleeting, rewards of life as an artist, yet when you encounter those pure moments of ecstatic knowledge they provide fuel for continued inspiration.

To understand the appeal of our jewelry, simply wear a piece. Feel the weight of solid silver and pure gold. This is jewelry that demands to be picked up and held, to be worn and cherished. One word describes SOMERS jewelry . . . timeless. Always striking, forever fashionable, we strive for designs that eclipse seasonal trends with classic style.
