Using the best parts of today’s technology becomes real when combined with the use of old, traditional techniques learned from the past.
I consider the majority of my work to be “photo-art” because I am essentially painting with photos. In these cases, I “extract” the best subjects, such as flowers, leaves or other living things (remove their backgrounds) then I arrange them to create the final pieces. They often involve more time than conventional painting. Only the flowers/plants that I recognize as having the right stuff become characters; and like good characters, they perform, and they all have a part to play. They all have a unique story to tell. Sometimes, I feature just the stars; other times an entire ensemble. I make every attempt to preserve the original color of the flowers, but I use a digital brush to change lighting effects from time to time. There are no apprentices or assistants in this process.
Ever SINCE I can remember, I always felt I had a passion for the camera and its capabilities. But only recently, have I learned what passion really means. I also discovered that it was really the end result, the image itself, that I held the passion for, not the camera. And, strangely enough, the camera is not always used in the production of much of my work, yet I technically still consider my creations to be photography, the capture of the “Light”, — which is to me, the Creator’s gift – on a medium of raw materials.
When I hear people describe how they are captured for a moment by my work, it flatters me to no end. I’m truly humbled that I can be in such a position. There’s no way I could do what I do, if it were not for the magnificent beauty of this natural world. Creation in all its glory!
If I could describe the prime purpose of my work, it would be the sharing of my discoveries. All that, in hopes that my work brightens someone else’s day. Along the way, in a few short years, I’ve been blessed with so many moments of pleasure while photographing and searching for the perfect flower, that time itself becomes a non-factor. The “present” – the “Now” experience - captures me in the beauty of the moment. If I can carry that experience forward to other people in the images I create, then I’ve accomplished my vision. Nothing pleases me more than to see someone react the way they do to my work. It brings me great joy to see a soul captured for a moment in a pleasant experience.
If I have made you stop and attempt to smell the flowers, then I’ve accomplished my vision. Enjoy!
All new images are printed directly on canvas using the “Genuine Gicleé Process” and coated with UV protection; then stretched on “jumbo board” frames. Most importantly, they are protected from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light, which will fade or destroy the colors in a matter of years in conventional photography.
Print Sizes range from 8” x 10” through 36” x 48”, although larger sizes are available upon request.
