My recent challenge to myself is to represent the feeling of movement in a painting. I’m working with many different effects of reflections to achieve a rhythm in the water. I’m introducing the mirror qualities of the early morning, and using undulating reflections to create the sense of motion to the work. My primary focus is architecture and waterfronts, which are my specialty.
I work in oils on canvas, usually large format to create the feeling that you can “walk into” the painting. The oils have warmth and translate the light beautifully. I travel to Europe to eat, drink and feel the colors and light of Italy & France. I only go where the food is good and the weather is warm.
I was born and raised in New York, moving to California in 1975, where I now reside with my family. My career as an artist began during my high school years, and has continued and grown to date. My background is in architecture which gives me a strong sense of balance and design. I’m fluent in both realism and abstract painting and I find that I bring techniques used in the abstracts to the realism work and vice-versa. I divide my time on the East Coast and have a studio on Long Island; many of the new paintings are inspired by the East Coast shorelines.
Many of my works are in the permanent collections of:
Additionally, I have many collectors around the world.
